Vertiflex

The Vertiflex Procedure involves the implantation of a small, titanium alloy device between the spinous processes of the vertebrae in the lower back. This device acts as an indirect decompression system, creating space between the vertebrae and relieving pressure on the spinal nerve

Lumbar spinal stenosis is commonly seen in older adults, typically over the age of 60, and can result from degenerative changes in the spine, such as the thickening of ligaments, bone spurs, or bulging discs. The condition can significantly impact a person's quality of life, making it difficult to perform daily activities and enjoy an active lifestyle.

The Vertiflex Superion Procedure is a minimally invasive treatment specifically designed to alleviate the symptoms of lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). Lumbar spinal stenosis is a condition where the spinal canal in the lower back narrows, leading to compression of the nerves. This compression can cause significant pain, numbness, and weakness in the lower back, legs, and buttocks, often worsening with walking or standing and improving when sitting or bending forward.

  • Initial Assessment:
Comprehensive evaluation, including imaging studies like MRI or CT scans, to confirm lumbar spinal stenosis and pinpoint the appropriate vertebrae for treatment.

  • Device Implantation:
A small incision is made, and using specialized instruments, the Vertiflex device is implanted between the spinous processes of the affected vertebrae to create space and relieve nerve compression.

  • Closure and Recovery:
The incision is closed, and the patient is monitored briefly before discharge. Light activities can resume within a few days, with normal activities returning within weeks.

Procedure Steps of the Vertiflex Procedure

  • Minimally Invasive: Small incision and minimal tissue disruption lead to quicker recovery and reduced postoperative pain.

  • Effective Pain Relief: Significant reduction in pain, numbness, and weakness by decompressing spinal nerves. Outpatient

  • Procedure: Patients typically go home the same day, allowing for a quick return to daily activities.

  • Long-lasting Results: Clinical studies show durable relief from lumbar spinal stenosis symptoms, with sustained improvement over several years.
